In an industry where sustainability is often reduced to a marketing strapline, forét is one of the few menswear brands putting its money where its mouth is. Founded in 2014 by childhood friends Jeppe Meier and Jesper Finderup, the Danish label was born out of a shared love for nature and a desire to slow things down. Both in the way we live and the way we dress. But what makes Forét sustainable?
forét’s philosophy is simple: make fewer, better things. Its collections are deliberately small. They're designed with versatility and longevity in mind. Crafted to work just as well in the city as they do on a weekend in the woods. Think tough organic-cotton work jackets, reassuringly thick T-shirts and surprisingly reasonably priced knitwear. It’s this balance of utility and refinement that has come to define the brand. Classic silhouettes, hard-wearing fabrics, and muted colour palettes. It all comes together to create a sort of modern uniform for people who’d rather be outdoors.

More than marketing
But sustainability here isn’t just about recycled cotton or organic labels sewn into hems. It’s baked into every stage of the process. forét’s production is rooted in Europe, where 97% of its garments are made. It’s a conscious decision that keeps supply chains short and quality control high. The brand works exclusively with factories that meet strict ethical standards, whether it’s a Portuguese mill producing heavyweight cotton twill or a specialist in China crafting technical outerwear to GRS-certified standards.

Material selection is equally rigorous. forét prioritises mono-fibre fabrics that can be recycled at the end of their life – a rare move in an industry hooked on blended materials. Fabrics are third-party certified wherever possible, and the design process is guided by a respect for utility and simplicity, with garments built to last and made to be worn season after season.

A different approach
What sets forét apart, though, is the honesty. The brand is refreshingly upfront about the fact that fashion – no matter how responsible – will always have an environmental impact. The goal isn’t perfection but progress, and Forét’s approach feels like a welcome antidote to fast fashion’s endless churn.
