Sean Wotherspoon is still in his heritage phase apparently. Fresh from reimagining a Porsche 2.7 RS with Jimmy Howson’s restoration outfit Stuff by Spot, the designer, sneakerhead and creative has turned his attention from Stuttgart to Solihull. The result? A 1958 Land Rover Series 2, unveiled at Monterey Car Week and already one of the most talked-about curios on the lawn.

It’s not just the Wotherspoon name that makes this particular machine notable. The truck itself is a rarity. A left-hand-drive Series 2. Sent to Canada in 1959 and believed to be one of only three in the UK still running on its original chassis. For more than forty years it belonged to the same engineer. Quietly ageing in obscurity before it was brought back across the Atlantic and, eventually, into Howson’s workshop.

Sean Wotherspoon Land Rover: Four months in the making

The rebuild, carried out over four months in Essex, balances originality with a few discreet nudges into the present. Most of the panels remain, the engine and gearbox have been refreshed, and the utilitarian cabin now hides CarPlay and a set of speakers under the rear benches. It still looks every bit the farm vehicle. But one that wouldn’t be entirely out of place outside Dover Street Market... or inside for that matter.

It’s a continuation of the same idea seen with the Porsche. Rarity, provenance, and a blast of colour as the final layer. A 1950s utility vehicle reimagined as a rolling moodboard. Parked on the lawn at Monterey, demanding as much attention as anything in the concours.
