All brands have a backstory. While some are longer than others, it’s always good to know where your clothing has come from in both a physical sense and in a less tangible sense. When it comes to Private White V.C., the history of the clothing goes beyond what we’re used to. The last remaining clothing factory in Manchester, the world’s first industrial city, this label has a real story to tell. Opening for business in 1853, Private White has made clothing for royalty, presidents, prime ministers and cultural icons. In 1916, Private White V.C. supplied the Allied Forces with trench coats before being commissioned by the MoD to supply the RAF with waterproof parkas. Still standing strong in the world of British outerwear, the brand has no intention of changing its practice, proudly making clothes for Manchester and the world thanks to a team of supremely experienced artisans. If the Private White V.C. Autumn/Winter collection is anything to go by, we should certainly believe that they’ll be here for another century and more.

Autumn/Winter collection. A bold windowpane check makes an instant impact.

Private White V.C. The Commuter Raincoat

We’ve all been there: you’ve already checked the weather forecast which told you that you’d be safe from the rain, so you opted for a lightweight coat which, when it inevitably started pouring down, wasn’t up to the job. The Commuter is a coat made with the intention of tackling any commute within any city at any time of year. A big claim, but looking to the 100% waterproof cotton shell, taped internal seams, military-grade hardware and detachable pure merino wool wadded liner, we’re inclined to agree.

Private White V.C. The Half Zip Cabin Shirt

With a newly opened Shirting Academy on the Manchester factory’s ground floor, the Private White V.C. Autumn/Winter collection is set to be stacked full of highlight shirts. This piece boasts a half zip fastening as well as an Italian-woven 100% cotton twill construction with a luxurious sateen finish. Featuring all of the signature premium details that we’re used to like mother of pearl buttons to the cuff and military-grade gunmetal zips, this is a winter wardrobe must-have.

Private White V.C. The Deluxe Wax Jacket

Imagined in 8oz waxed cotton woven in Scotland, the Deluxe Wax Jacket goes beyond classic waxed jackets: elevated by tailoring, quality and material provenance, Private White V.C. once again goes above and beyond the call of duty. Inside the coat you’ll be treated to a 100% wool flannel lining and internal stud-secured pockets. Thanks to the organic beeswax finish, this piece will wear over time to produce a striking unique patina.
