Yes, we like this 1990 Porsche, too. Naturally, It’s not just any 911 but a 1990 Porsche 964 Targa reimagined by the Californian bespoke restorers at Singer. This highly desirable machine was the 300th tailor-made rebuild these perfectionists hand-crafted for an exacting client. Luckily for all of us, that client has decided that this particular 1990 Porsche is superfluous to their requirements and it’s now up for auction. Trust us, you’ll be wanting to bid.

Singer like to stress that they are in no way manufacturers. What they do, with exacting precision in their laboratory-like headquarters, is take apart a 911 - in this case a Type 964 1990 Porsche 911 - and reimagine every detail as their expert technicians rebuild the car, to the owner’s exact requirements. This 300th example of their work brings together, as Singer puts it, "beauty, craftsmanship and innovation”. The telling details are all under the skin, and what details they are.

That shape looks familiar, doesn’t it? In fact, classic 1990 Porsche bodywork is entirely new: in super-light, super-strong and super-expensive carbon fibre. Paintwork is Resistance Blue, with ghosted “Porsche” side-striping to the lower edge of each side, so subtle you can barely see it. This 1990 Porsche really is one for the connoisseurs. Interior is entirely bespoke, in Citrus Orange leather. Lightweight track seats are carbon fibre - of course - with hand woven leather centres. But you’ll be wanting to know about power.

Naturally-aspirated, air-cooled flat-six engine is mounted, as in the original 1990 Porsche 911, to the rear, but that’s the only similarity. While the original engine might have been good for 250 bhp, this unit, lovingly rebuilt by Ed Pink Racing Engines, produces around twice that. It’s now a full 4.0-litre engine and is something of a work of art to view. Given how light this 1990 Porsche 911 is, with its carbon fibre bodywork, acceleration will certainly grab your attention.

The client dubbed his new car “The Sotto Commission”, as if it was worthy of a museum. Given that this 1990 Porsche Targa reimagined by Singer has registered a mere 100 miles on the clock since completion in February, a motoring museum might as well have been its home.
