Like so many of the best brands, Aker was borne out of frustration. Its story began when its founder, Matt Calver – a man who has always enjoyed looking after himself – finally grew tired of having to deal with skin that was constantly fluctuating due to the changing seasons. It was dry and tight in winter and oily and sensitive in summer. His one-size-fits-all approach to skincare was only making things worse, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.
After much research into how climatic change can affect our skin, he developed a skincare range expertly tailored to the seasons, offering moisturisers formulated to support and protect the skin as its needs change throughout the year. And so, at the end of 2019, Aker was born.
The brand offers four moisturisers – one for each season, with each expertly crafted for that specific time of year. The winter moisturiser is rich and highly moisturising; spring is specially blended to keep skin clear through the climatic transition; summer is a light moisturiser with the highest UVA protection and autumn is designed to balance the skin.
The formulas are made using 82% natural ingredients, such as honey extract, rosemary leaf, oat extract, jojoba seed oil and aloe vera. Hyaluronic acid is also included to support smooth and hydrated skin, while parabens, paraffin and artificial scents are strictly omitted. In an endeavour to tackle signs of ageing, the products include the much-heralded 'miracle ingredient' Matrixyl® 3000, which is renowned for its long-term reduction of the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles, leaving skin looking smoother and younger.
