Buttero footwear celebrates the shepherds and cowboys of Tuscany, called "butteros". Buttero sizing is the key to choosing the perfect pair of sneakers from these Italian specialists.

All of their chukka boots, sneakers and high tops are designed not only to look great, but are crafted with all of the care that you'd need if you were out on the land all day.

That means that for Buttero sizing is doubly important. They are perfectionists and that's clear from the company's history. Buttero's story starts in 1974 when founder Mauro Sani set out to make the best riding boots that Italy could offer.

Given Italy's heritage in making fine leather goods, and particularly shoes, that was a tall order. We'd say they've succeeded, and then some. Using the best vegetable-tanned leather, sourced from the region, craftsmen make each pair of Buttero shoes that the company releases by hand, using the old-fashioned methods.

Sometimes the old ways are the best, after all.

All Buttero shoes fit one size large. At OPUMO, we list sizes using the UK and US conventions, with handy conversion charts if you're used to using other sizing methods.

"One size large" simply means that Buttero make their footwear a size larger you may be used to. That means, for instance, that if you generally wear a UK size 9, you should order size 8 when choosing Buttero. Half sizes are available in some styles, but if not, go down a half size, so 9.5 becomes 9.

As always, we'd advise that you take a look through your footwear wardrobe before you decide. Which pair of your shoes fits the best? That's the size that you should use as a basis.
