Founded in 2014, Fora is born out of Miguel Barral’s fruitless search for 100% Portuguese eyewear. Through a passion for vintage frame design, Miguel set about to create a label that focused on vintage design, high quality components and affordable price tags. While many men’s designer sunglasses brands look to classic styles for inspiration, the thing that sets Fora apart is its ability to modernise vintage designs while retaining their original, authentic style. One technique for this is upgrading the components and materials but leaving the model unaltered: using Carl Zeiss lenses and premium Italian acetate positions Fora at the intersection between form and function.
We could continue to sing the label’s praises but we understand that new brands to the platform do better by proving their own worth. That’s why we’ve picked out 5 of our favourite styles from the Lisbon-based brand.
No matter how many styles of frame you own, there will always be room for a pair of classic round glasses. Oozing vintage appeal, the frame silhouette is versatile, lightweight and memorable. The label’s signature modernisation comes in the form of transparent frames that accentuate a dark blue tinted Carl Zeiss lens.
The same style as the previous selection, this iteration of the Rounder frame boasts a matte frame in a deep burnt orange hue. More classic in appearance, the Mel Matte colourway pairs well with darker pieces like this Form & Thread Brick Cabin Shirt.
Substituting the fluid shapes of the Rounder frame for square lenses and a keyhole bridge, this sleek, all-black frame is great for grounding an outfit: whether you’re going loud or laid-back, Maker frames will ensure that the overall look is anchored in quiet confidence.
Inspired by the iconic styles of the ‘50s, Wiser is a frame that turns heads. Combine the stylish double bridge with the dark tortoise premium Italian acetate construction and dark Zeiss lenses for an irresistibly suave finish.
We love all Fora frames but we’re allowed a favourite and this is it: Rocket. This bold frame is brimming with attitude, the thick brow and temples provide added comfort and impact to the style. The unusual muted olive hue makes a statement too, style with a natural palette like Schnayderman’s Sand Boxy Linen One Shirt for a masterfully relaxed ensemble.
