We have calcium in our bones, iron in our veins, carbon in our souls, and nitrogen in our brains. 93 percent stardust, with souls made of flames, we are all just stars that have people names.
Nikita Gill
Star signs are a contentious subject. Some swear by their daily horoscope, urging them to take a chance on that vague opportunity which may or may not present itself today. Others see the zodiac signs as arbitrary classifications with no bearing on real life. Either way, there’s no denying that it can be fun to make predictions and, as Nikita Gill says, as humans we are undeniably connected to the universe so who’s to say whether star signs are real or not?
I love to paint shapes and lines that can be interpreted in numerous different ways, so that the observer can develop their own meaning of the work.
Eitil Thorén Due (Peytil)
Stockholm-based artist Eitil Due, otherwise known as Peytil, produces Scandinavian-style prints for the home. Peytil’s collection of high-quality art prints is characterised by his passions: fashion, street art and sculpture. This trifecta of inspirations results in a selection of minimal art prints made up of stark, bold, sweeping lines that add a sense of creative dynamism to any room.
The idea of a Zodiac Series came when a customer ordered a portrait of the Gemini and Peytil fans immediately demanded more signs. The illustrations are made with a single continuous line running through the whole painting, illustrating more than just one emotion. The technique employs black ink on heavy aquarelle paper and the twelve signs are open edition prints available in sizes from 12”x16” to 39”x55”. In this series, Eitil depicts each star sign in his typically captivating style, and here are our favourites.
