Going up on the auction block alongside the classic crowds of Ferraris and Aston Martins, we think this BMW will stand out for all of the right reasons. Although we love a classic Ferrari or Aston Martin as much as the next person, we love to see a machine that may not match up on certain fronts, but maximises its qualities to find its own lane – enter the 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL.

First things first, the paint job. Glistening under bright showroom lights, we can picture this pristine black exterior causing quite a stir in Pebble Beach. Compounded by a trio of coloured stripes to either side of the body as well as a new body kit, this motor looks ready to race at all times.

Moving to the interior, the retro feel of the dashboard and original steering wheel is undeniable, an aspect that runs through the design of the car as a whole. Considering the body which is characterised by the boxy form and abrupt angles but also the modern body alterations and glistening paint job, this car has been updated while retaining its retro charm.

Topped off by the gleaming silver finishes, such as vents and wheel arches, we can’t stop staring at this 1972 BMW masterpiece, that’s why we feel confident about its popularity against tough competition.
