No tarmac? No problem

Bold in stealth gloss black, bespoke and supremely capable, please welcome your transport for all conditions, all seasons, anytime, anywhere. And as a bonus, one of them is your home too. Austrian stripped-back design experts Vagabund have teamed up with off-road fanatics Delta 4x4 to create a pair of vehicles that together offer just about all that you could ever need in your garage. We’re already in love with the Vagabund x Delta duo.

Expertise from Delta 4x4 means that both the 911 you see here and its more homely companion are hugely capable off-road. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter features all of motorhome supremo Hymer’s renowned interior comforts while boasting raised suspension with a further 40mm lift available, all-terrain wheels with BF Goodrich tyres and PIAA rally-style headlamps. Wildlife will see you coming at night. Smiley headlamp covers will worry them during the day, too.

Porsche 911 is an around five year old 992 variant, more than capable of leading the pack on whatever limit-free motorway you choose to throw it down. With the Vagabund x Delta makeover, you’ll be able to give proper off-roaders a good scare beyond the tarmac, too.

The engineers behind Delta 4x4 are pretty pleased with the way this collaboration has turned out. "We wanted to achieve a new level of performance and design,” says an unidentified spokesperson, "And I think we've done it. These vehicles are not only extremely capable, but also incredibly cool to look at. We can't wait to see how our customers take them out into the great outdoors."

Vagabund x Delta: A focus on the essentials

As for Vagabund, co-founders Paul Brauchart and Philipp Rabi are renowned for their no-nonsense unlikely design projects. From an off-road Lada Niva - and its associated Solido toy - and a Porsche 944 Safari to a open top Land Rover Defender V8 and - their first love - out-there motorcycle updates, such as their radically reimagined BMW R100RT. Of the collaboration with Delta, Brauchart says, “We focused on one of our principles: interpret the status quo, no frills. With a few changes, we have focused on the essentials.”

Happily both of these essential vehicles are available for sale. How much? Neither Vagabund nor Delta are telling us, with pricing strictly on application. As a guide, Vagabund’s Safari kit for a Porsche 944 or 924 costs around £10,000 extra. We’d put the Vagabund x Delta 911 and companion Sprinter at around £100,000 each, as turnkey projects fully converted. That’s a lot, but why would you even need a house with what amounts to a mobile home? See you on the road, somewhere exotic.
