In just eight short years, Airbnb has gone from being just another optimistic Californian startup to a major multinational company offering more than a million and a half listings in 34,000 cities. Very few of those listings are as perfectly formed as this super Stylish apartment in Girona, though.
Inside the old city walls of Girona, this duplex gives you and up to five of your friends ample room to stretch out in individual and uniquely Spanish fashion. The design honours the building's 16th century heritage while incorporating essentially 21st century features.
There's a spectacular verandah, an open plan kitchen and dining space to make the most of Girona's superb food markets as well as views over the oldest parts of one of Catalonia's most fascinating cities, a place all too often ignored in favour of big brother Barcelona.
Airbnb essentials like wi-fi and plasma televisions are present and correct. What really caught our eye was the sure-footed attention to detail of host Juan Manuel in this loving renovation. Simplicity is the key with exposed brickwork, white fabrics and wooden flooring throughout. Juan Manuel says among his inspirations were, "Fire, stone, nature, water and silence."
Girona is a fascinating city to spend a few days in, with modern Spanish cuisine - and all that history. With this stylish Airbnb hideaway as home, we'd happily eat in and forgo some of the sights.
