For this concept, the boffins at Lexus Associated Accessory Products - or AAP for short - have thrown the book at their big SUV, and the 2024 Lexus GX has never looked better.
Base camp for this striking one-off build, showcased at the vast Las Vegas SEMA auto-event, is the latest model, itself no stranger to off-road excursions, with full-time four-wheel drive, limited slip differential and, best of all, a powerful twin-turbocharged 3.4-litre V6 engine, boasting 349 bhp. For the - deep breath - 2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail+ AAP, designers and engineers have added all that you might need to make excursions off-tarmac as easy as a trip down to the supermarket. Stylish too, but that’s the way of every Lexus GX, 2024 model year, we’d suggest.
The look of this unique ride owes, to our eyes, more than a little something to the latest Land Rover Defender, fully optioned-up, and that’s no bad thing. Especially given the excellent reliability record of the standard 2024 Lexus GX 550. The Overtrail+ Concept boasts huge 33-inch Toyo all-terrain tyres mounted on imposing 18-inch alloys, blacked-out for added attitude. Aluminium skid-plate is the key accessory you can’t see, to protect underside delicates from pesky rocks that might want to intrude. Substantial roof rack - equipped with rugged Pelican cargo cases - is by Prinsu who also supplied this concept with its handy ladder for easy roof access.
There’s more too - remembering that you’re already lounging in the standard 2024 Lexus GX interior featuring heated and ventilated seats, massage option available - with two-gallon containers from rotoPax to keep you hydrated in extreme conditions and a DMOS Delta shovel to dig you out when the going gets really tough. Exterior two-tone colourway is i earth and black tones, while to express a form-follows-function ethos, the 2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail+ AAP has all badges and bumpers blacked out.
