There's no denying the deck shoe's place among the pantheon of casual-footwear greats, but despite their Ivy-style prestige, it's hard to shake the dad-on-holiday connotations. B.O.T.O. might be the brand best positioned to change that.

Launched in May 2026, the brand is already getting attention from the likes of eye_C and Hartcopy thanks to its modern interpretation of the deck-shoe format. Specifically, B.O.T.O makes use of BOA-style dials instead of laces, creating an interesting juxtaposition of classic and contemporary.

The brand takes its cues from life along the Mediterranean coastline, using footwear to channel a relaxed, coastal aesthetic. The debut collection centres around the RIVER Deck Shoe – a contemporary interpretation of the traditional deck-shoe silhouette that swaps the narrow, restrictive fit of many heritage styles for a wider, roomier last designed to allow the foot to move more naturally.

Two versions are available. One stays relatively faithful to the original deck shoe, complete with classic 360-degree leather lacing. The other replaces traditional laces with a FREELOCK dial closure, giving the shoe a cleaner look while allowing for quick, precise adjustment on the move.

Both styles are crafted using European leather and resin-backed suede, and come in a considered palette that ranges from versatile cognac, taupe and black to more adventurous mint green and crisp white.

It's a thoughtful update of a classic that's arriving just as deck shoes are beginning to re-enter the menswear conversation. If you've been looking for a pair that feels more contemporary than nostalgic, B.O.T.O. might be one to watch.

The B.O.T.O. RIVER Deck Shoe is available now from the brand's online store.
