Ever got off your bike after a long ride with eyes streaming from allergens and a sharp, rasping cough from all of the air pollution? A new crash helmet offers a solution. This is ZYON Helmets: a new way of approaching your health and safety when out on your bike. Because the ZYON Helmet is a pioneer, say its makers, in providing a rigorously designed system protecting against both air pollution and allergens.
Key point is what ZYON call their Breath Safe System, aimed at staving off the effects of foul air, driving rain and high pollen counts. Naturally all of these can interrupt not only your riding experience, but your health in general. It’s this system above all that marks out ZYON against other crash helmets, and the detailed approach taken is seriously impressive.
Farewell, fumes
Four protective filters form ZYON’s patented Breath Safe System. Outer water repellent layer provides protection against water and any pesky insects, so that in all weathers your air is cleaner and drier even in challenging conditions. Second up is a HEPA filter capturing fine particles and allergens. These filters have to meet an industry standard to gain the HEPA designation, with more than 99% of all named particles being protected against. Formidable.
Third filter is activated carbon, for more protection against the air pollution that’s experienced by every motorcyclist every day. And finally there’s what ZYON call a Spunbound layer, which protects the carbon layer and helps to ensure the longest lasting filtration performance. Each filter is replaceable and lasts around three months say ZYON. To us it looks like a comprehensive protection that all motorcyclists - whether you’re on a scooter or a superbike - should put high on their essentials list.
Oh, and we nearly forgot. All filters are three-way adjustable, with modes designed for low, high and medium speeds. A connected app not only monitors air pollution for you, but lets you know when it’s time to order more filters to keep air pollution and allergen protection at their maximum.
ZYON Helmets: A considered design
The rest of the ZYON Helmet design is equally carefully considered. Idea, as ZYON puts it, is that you’ll feel that, "it’s custom-made just for you”. Construction incorporates an ultra lightweight fibre shell with premium padding and an integrated sun visor. ZYON have incorporated Mips technology to allow slight movement on impact, which is designed to help reduce the risk of brain injury. Active rear light on the helmet is integrated with a sensor that makes the light brighter when you’re decelerating to alert those following you.
We’ve left off the consideration of what colour you’d like your ZYON Helmet to be. Because while aesthetics are important, your health is more so. Still, you can choose between black, white, grey, green and white. Nice. We’re great ZYON fans. Prices have still to be announced, but when we secure our next custom bike, we’ll be reserving ours.
