In the almost hundred years since its inception, Bang & Olufsen has cemented itself as one of the world's leading names in audio technology. Whenever the Danish label unveils a new speaker, audiophiles rightly take note, and this time is no different: Bang & Olufsen's brand-new Beosound Level portable wifi speaker is worth getting seriously excited about. Read our Beosound Level review for everything you need to know about the latest Bang & Olufsen design.

Design

In typical Bang & Olufsen fashion, the Beosound Level is characterised by sleek, Scandinavian-inspired aesthetics, intended to look as good as it sounds. Designed by longtime Bang & Olufsen collaborator Torsten Valeur, it's available in Natural, with a sophisticated dark grey fabric covering and pearl-blasted aluminium frame, or Gold, with a matte gold aluminium frame and natural oak veneer. Whether displayed laying down on its back, standing up or mounted on the wall via an optional wall bracket (which, for £89, is worth the money if you're forking out over £1000 for the speaker anyway) it appears more like a piece of stylish statement furniture than a functional speaker.

One of the most enticing aspects of the Beosound Level is its modular design, which allows for replacement batteries, changeable fabric and wood covers, and more. Such adaptability is a welcome counteraction against tech obsolescence that means you'll be able to enjoy the Level for decades rather than mere years.

Sound

When it comes to audio experience, the Beosound Level is in a league of its own. A powerful five-driver set up delivers immersive, full-range sound that adapts to the room based on the speakers placement. Lay it flat for dynamic 360-degree sound, stand it upright for detailed and diffused sound or mount it to the wall for enveloping room-filling sound that will give you the feeling of being at a live concert.

Our verdict

The Bang & Olufsen Beosound Level possesses next-level design from one of Scandinavia's most promising talents, an unparalleled audio experience akin to live music, and reliable made-to-last construction. With a £1299 price tag, it may be a steep price to pay for a speaker, but this is clearly no ordinary speaker.
