A digital timepiece for the connoisseurs
Casio has revived one of its most iconic styles with the release of the G-Shock DW-5000R, a modern homage to its groundbreaking 1983 model. Marking four decades of unyielding innovation, the reimagined timepiece lands in Japan on December 13, priced at 33,000 yen (around $217).
The DW-5000R resurrects the design of the original DW-5000C, flaunting a stainless steel case and a screw-lock back etched with "Shock Resistant". Modernity steps in with bio-based resin for the band and bezel, a deliberate move toward sustainability. Meanwhile, a high-brightness LED backlight pierces through dimly lit environments, offering superior readability.
Subtle tweaks bring the watch into the present, with the case growing slightly to 42.3mm, up from the original 41.6mm. Legacy features endure: a stopwatch, countdown timer, multi-function alarm, and an auto-calendar programmed until 2099. Water resistance of 200 metres and G-Shock’s hallmark shock protection remain steadfast.
G-Shock DW-5000R: Recrafting a legend
Crafting of the DW-5000R occurs at Yamagata Casio, the hallowed "mother factory" where the first G-Shock came to life. This choice underscores Casio's reverence for its heritage while championing impeccable craftsmanship.
The global debut of the DW-5000R is still pending. With its blend of history and modernity, the watch is poised to entice long-time enthusiasts and first-time buyers alike. It bridges eras, offering collectors a tangible piece of G-Shock history while equipping wearers with rugged, contemporary functionality.
