Lockdown restrictions are easing and the mercury is rising, which means it's time to start planning our annual summer holidays. This year however, with travel still shrouded in uncertainty, we're playing it safe and limiting our movements, swapping far-flung destinations for the delights of our own backyard. The Great British holiday is back and better than ever. To celebrate its revival, luxury luggage label Globe-Trotter has released a new range, entitled the Albion collection, which draws inspiration from the tradition of holiday-making in Britain and the nostalgia with which we look back on it. As a British heritage brand with everything still proudly designed and made in England, the collection also recalls Globe-Trotter’s rich and storied history.

To kick-start the design process of the collection, designer Charlotte Seddon took inspiration from the company archives, which were filled with decades-old Globe-Trotter cases that often belonged to the same family and were emblazoned with stripes as a family insignia so that they could be easily identified on travels. "For decades, the British population have enjoyed taking trips around and exploring the British Isles with their suitcases in tow," says Charlotte, of her initial inspiration. "These suitcases are passed down the generations, carrying with them countless special memories and eventually becoming family heirlooms."

The new collection draws upon these memories, reimagining glorious British summer holidays of the past for the modern explorer. It comprises two distinct retro-inspired styles. 'Dorset' draws aesthetic inspiration from the seaside, recalling pastel-hued ice-cream and beach huts. It comes in a light cream Vulcanised Fibreboard body offset by pale blue leather corners, with a red stripe on the exterior that calls to mind the markings of a lighthouse. Inside, a playful patchwork lining balances the case's sophisticated silhouette with a spirit of lightheartedness.

The second edition is the 'Cotswolds' style. Inspired by stone cottages and quaint villages, it features more muted tones with a cream and blue stripe. The colourful lining is inspired by the landscape paintings of David Hockney and the sight of the British countryside from the air stretched out like a patchwork quilt.

Designed with the whole family in mind, the Albion collection includes an assortment of luggage items – from the brand's signature London Square handbag to handy carry-on cases, all the way up to family-friendly 30” check-in suitcases. The range also boasts Globe-Trotter’s revolutionary new 4-wheel system for the first time in a seasonal collection, as well as complementary luggage tags and a new leather travel sticker.
