Stockholm is famously a hotbed of great design studios, collectives and brands, but one of the city's most impressive exports to date is certainly Hem. The independent design label was established in 2014 upon the basis of developing a new generation of furniture, accessories and lighting that are functional, fuss-free and stylish.
Hem translates to 'home': its key focus is always on what makes a house a home - from cosy sofas and ultra-soft woollen blankets to statement floor lamps and sleek bar stools. All of Hem's products have a story. Unlike so many of the major furniture labels, Hem wants to draw attention to the people behind the pieces. The brand works with some of the world's most talented designers, each with varying design styles and approaches, to bring innovative design to the masses.
These are some of the Hem pieces we're eyeing up at the moment.
This elegant armchair, designed by Luca Nichetto, is inspired by the slender form of a whale shark - as suggested by the Finnish "hai" name. We're particularly drawn to the coral colour, which will make just the right amount of a statement in any room
This oak coffee table by Staffan Holm is as versatile as they come, thanks to its sleek rounded edges and simple oak finish. Combine it with different sized coffee tables of the same style for ultimate appeal.
Crafted from 100% superfine New Zealand lambswool, this playful woollen throw is part of Sylvain Willenz' Scribble collection, which brings the designer's geometric sketches to life. It makes a luxurious bedroom accessory that you'll no doubt reach for time and again.
