Gravel as a discipline has been slowly taking over the cycling world for a number of years, and now its coming for running too. Between mountain trails and smooth tarmac streets, there's a whole world of unpaved roads and singletrack to explore. But what shoes to wear? The new Pas Normal Studios x Salomon collection may have an answer.

Launching on May 27th, the limited-edition capsule is built around the idea of “movement without boundaries”, combining the Danish cycling brand’s stripped-back Scandinavian design language with Salomon’s technical footwear expertise. The result is a small but considered collection aimed at athletes who move fluidly between terrain

At the centre of the release is the new GRVL Concept shoe – a hybrid performance runner designed specifically for mixed terrain. Drawing inspiration from modern road-running super shoes, it features a PEBA-based foam midsole alongside dual full-length carbon blades for increased propulsion and energy return.

Built for balance
Interestingly, the outsole takes cues from gravel bike tyres, using shallow 1.5mm lugs to balance grip on loose surfaces with speed on asphalt. Elsewhere, a high-stack 43mm/37mm platform, integrated knitted gaiter and Salomon’s signature Quicklace system position it firmly at the performance end of the spectrum. Despite the tech-heavy construction, the shoe weighs a claimed 262 grams.

Visually, the collection leans into Pas Normal Studios’ more experimental T.K.O. universe. Earthy sandy tones are contrasted with sharp hits of yellow and blue, while reflective silver-grey branding keeps things understated rather than shouty.
Alongside the footwear, the collaboration also introduces a co-branded RACE SKIN 2 running vest, designed for long efforts across hybrid terrain. The lightweight pack features dual front hydration flasks, a rear bladder compartment and a close-fitting silhouette intended to minimise bounce while running.
