Rooted in ideals of tradition and time-honoured design, French watch label BALTIC Watches creates vintage-inspired watches that fuse classic style with contemporary components and cutting-edge innovation. The latest addition to the brand's collection – the BALTIC Aquascaphe GMT – fits that bill to a tee.
The new style is an update on BALTIC's flagship diving watch, the bestselling Aquascaphe. Equipped with a Swiss self-winding (automatic) Soprod C125 movement, it boasts a power reserve of 42 hours, a date window (it's the first BALTIC watch to have one) and a GMT function with an additional fourth hand that allows for the direct reading of a second time zone. Precision has been prioritised: this is a timepiece that can be relied on for its robustness in any environment.
It's not bad to look at, either. The matte dial of the original Aquascaphe has been reworked to a glossy finish, with raised markers that lend it a sleek, sophisticated aesthetic. A double domed sapphire crystal offers an elegant profile and ultimate resistance. The case is made of 316L steel, a strong and corrosion-resistant alloy, which, combined with linear brushing on the side and circular brushing on the top of the case, ensures durability and longevity.
Choose from three colour variations: green, grey or orange, each with a different rotating bi-color (and bi-directional) bezel. There's also the choice of two bracelets: a rubber tropic strap or a metal 'bead of rice' bracelet, which can be changed easily thanks to drilled lugs. Each caseback features an engraving inspired by different time zones, with country names circumventing the outer part of the caseback and a map of the world in the centre.

Our verdict
In typical BALTIC Watches fashion, the Aquascaphe GMT fuses traditional style with modern technical flourishes, although this version is slightly more contemporary and cosmopolitan looking than the original Aquascaphe model. In our opinion, it's the ultimate everyday watch. The combination of elegant aesthetics, hard-wearing durability and ease-of-wear make it ideal for just about any occasion.
