With bars and restaurants shuttered and the prospect of dining out again soon seeming increasingly fanciful, we're doing what we can to make ordinary mealtimes at home that bit more special. Who better to enlist for help in that department than Polkra, a London-based homewares label whose entire existence is predicated upon enhancing the everyday.
The brand has recently collaborated with award-winning designer Anna Glover to create a collection of beautiful tableware, featuring two sets of placemats and two sets of coasters. Entited 'Mirabilia', the range is inspired by mythical animals and folklore from ancient Indian, Arabic and European manuscripts from around the world, known as books of Mirabilia. 'Mirabilia' refers to miraculous events and marvels – things that inspire and wonder – which is exactly what Anna Glover's range for Polkra intends to do, by bringing an element of excitement to everyday mealtimes at home.
Not only do the placemats and coasters in the range boast beautiful hand-illustrated designs, they're also made to last. Lovingly crafted from a sustainable eucalyptus base with non-slip cork backing and a matte finish, they're scratch and stain resistant as well as heat-resistant to 140°C. A protective high quality melamine coating ensures the digitally-printed designs will stand the test of time, guaranteeing these placemats and coasters pride of place on your dining table for many mealtimes to come.
