Copenhagen-based Frama is forging a new direction in contemporary Danish design by giving the traditional clean lines and distinctive shapes a new lease of life. Through a dialogue with the past – and staying loyal to the distinctly Danish model of simplicity, timelessness and an appreciation of the basics – the multidisciplinary studio is creating elegant, understated pieces that are made to last a lifetime.

Most impressively of all, Frama are achieving this success across a multitude of disciplines. Frama juggles many facets of design, working across furniture, lighting, apothecary, books and apparel to kitchens, fragrance and home. These independent threads are drawn together by the brand’s common focus on natural materials, simple geometry and the quest for permanence. In addition to producing handsomely understated products – some designed entirely by its in-house team, and others exclusively commissioned by a range of top Scandinavian talents – the studio has also branched into interiors, adding character to old buildings by introducing new materials, influences and aesthetics.

Stepping into the Frama's headquarters, housed in an 18th century pharmacy located in Copenhagen’s historic neighbourhood of Nyboder, and you can easily see how effortlessly they combine the two worlds together. The synergy between the past and present elements of the space is a direct link to how Frama defines their design ethos, and this creative dialogue sees Frama blend classical and contemporary influences with digital and new-age production.

Naturally, the Frama furniture and homeware collection – which has just launched online at OPUMO – focuses on the same design philosophy. Simple, refined and resting on strong geometry and material choices, the objects within the collection signal a return to basics, where the design appearance aims to be honest and pure. The OPUMO selection focusses on Frama’s unique range of lighting and small homeware accessories. Featuring everything from the sculpted copper Cone Pendant to the mood-enhancing Eiffel Wall Lamp to the sloped 9.5°Chair.
