Thought big-coat season was winding down? Think again. Famed for his deconstructed reworks of utilitarian outerwear silhouettes, Junya Watanabe has once again teamed up with Italian outerwear innovator C.P. Company for a limited two-piece Japan-made collection.

The partnership sees Watanabe – a Comme des Garçons alumnus known for his technically inclined takes on Americana and utilitywear – apply his hand to two core outerwear silhouettes. The result is a parka and a vest that draw heavily from the C.P. Company archive, albeit with some subtly subversive tweaks.

Junya Watanabe MAN x C.P. Company: Key pieces

First up: the Oxford Nylon Parka. A modernised military layer, it’s built with a relaxed fit and cut from C.P.’s proprietary nylon blend. A hidden two-way zip sits behind a snap-fastened flap, while four oversized patch pockets dominate the front. The explorer-style hood, complete with zip and button fastenings, is removable – a practical touch, and one that’s become a bit of a C.P. signature over the years. Adjustable cuffs and a drawstring hem allow for further refinement. As expected, it's made in Japan to exacting standards, and priced accordingly.

Then there’s the Goggle Vest. Based on the same ergonomic mindset that made Massimo Osti a cult figure in the fashion-tech space, this utility vest features a three-layer construction, a removable quilted lining, and the ever-recognisable Goggle hood. It’s functional to the point of overkill: zipped chest pockets, removable back pouch, adjustable velcro straps – all the trimmings. Yet the overall feel is measured, not maximalist. The silhouette remains wearable, the intent clear.

Both pieces are unmistakably C.P. in concept, but the execution leans into Watanabe’s own legacy: clothing that looks like it belongs in a design lab as much as on the street. Garments for people who appreciate the nuance of Japanese manufacturing and the history baked into Italian outerwear.
