When you’re planning an escape to somewhere that, for a while at least, you simply won’t be found, you’ll need the right transport for the journey. We'd humbly suggest that you’re looking at just the thing. Swedish form-follows-function design and rugged detailing mark out the 2025 edition of the Norden 901 Expedition by Husqvarna, the long-established motocross specialists. You’re in good hands, just so long as you avoid the occasional rock.

Technical specifications are impressive. Basis is a platform shared with Husqvarna owner KTM, the Austrian off-road maestros, and that can only be a good thing. Liquid cooled parallel twin 889 cc engine is equipped with balancer shafts for super-low vibration, essential on the long journeys the Norden 901 Expedition is designed for. Engine is a stressed member in super-lightweight steel trellis frame, designed to offer, Husqvarna tell us, “assured stability and comfort when riding off-road or on less-travelled tracks”.

A bit of background

Quick word on why you should be reassured by all of this. Husqvarna first made motorcycles at the beginning of the last century, turning to off-road competition early on to promote what quickly became one of Sweden’s best motorcycle brands. With the rise and rise of motocross, Husqvarna designs ruled the track right up until the mid 1970s. And all of that from a company that started out in the 17th century making guns. In short: at Husqvarna they know how to make things for important occasions when you need to rely on your Husqvarna-branded piece.

So the wrap-around aluminium skid plate that you’ve no doubt already have noticed - yes, we think it looks like a Hannibal Lecter mask too - is designed to keep all the important bits of your Norden 901 Expedition safe from any impact you may encounter as you tackle a mountain trail. Off road oriented WP XPLOR suspension is fully adjustable and offers super-long travel. Aerodynamically designed windshield deflects annoying wind around you, reducing fatigue. Big fuel tank ensures that the wilds can be navigated without any range anxiety.

Traction tech and more

There’s more, so much more. Take the inbuilt electronics, for example. Husqvarna’s Cornering Motorcycle Traction Control - capital letters all theirs - gives experienced riders ten settings to allow for varying degrees of slip. Or just leave it alone, as we would, to do its own thing. Built in navigation means you’ll almost certainly reach your hotel by bedtime. And did we say that heated handgrips and saddle come as standard? This is a machine built for Sweden in the winter, after all.

Husqvarna have still to release exact pricing - and that’s before you decide on essential accessories such as luggage bag or touring top case for that rugged Alpine journey you’ve always promised yourself - but put aside around £14,000 and the Norden 901 Expedition could be in your garage. Great value? We can think of nothing better to tempt you to have a proper, adventurous go at the great outdoors so yes, most certainly.
