Generations of racers cut their teeth aboard its oversized aluminium tubes, and even today the name carries a level of respect few production bikes can match. It remains the benchmark against which almost every performance alloy road bike is judged.
That's exactly why Team Dream chose it. The Southern California cycling collective has partnered with Cannondale on a limited run of just 100 bespoke CAAD14 framesets, turning an already iconic platform into something even more collectible.
If you've spent any time following American cycling culture over the past decade, chances are you've come across Team Dream. Operating from the Cub House in Southern California, the collective has built a reputation less through racing results than through infectious enthusiasm as one of the coolest cycling brands around. Group rides, handmade merchandise, bike shows and a healthy disregard for cycling's more serious side have made it one of the sport's genuine cult brands.

Visually, the bike leaves little room for subtlety. Buyers can choose between Player 1 Red and Player 2 Blue, two gloriously saturated colourways that feel more arcade cabinet than WorldTour team bike. Hidden details reward closer inspection too, including "Righty" and "Lefty" graphics inside the fork legs – a wink towards Cannondale's legendary Lefty suspension fork that long-time fans will immediately appreciate.
The collaboration isn't simply rooted in nostalgia for the CAAD's racing pedigree, either. For Team Dream co-founder Danny, the project reconnects with his own memories of riding a CAAD5, a bike that helped shape his relationship with cycling long before carbon became the default choice. That personal history makes the decision to use the CAAD14 feel entirely authentic rather than commercially convenient.
Limited to just 100 numbered framesets worldwide, the Team Dream x Cannondale CAAD14 was priced at $2,500 upon launch but sold out immediately, with each purchase including a matching jersey and bib shorts from the accompanying capsule collection. Still, keep an eye out on resale platforms and you might strike gold.
