A black watch is bulletproof. No respectable watch collection is complete without one. Whether a highly technical diving watch or something more design-led, there’s something about black that lends itself to a stylish watch.

It’s no wonder so many limited editions feature black dials, there’s something special about incorporating black into the design of a timepiece. In celebration of black watches for men, we’ve pulled together a few of our favourites to bring you a choice collection of our favourites.

Best men’s black watches for men in 2024

Waldor & Co

Of all of the black watches for men out there, we had to begin with this beauty from Waldor & Co. You can bet your bottom dollar the prices are going to rise in this article, so it’s good to start out with something on the more affordable side. With a face that’s neither round nor square, but both, covered with domed mineral glass that reduces glare, ensures visibility from different perspectives and protects the dial, it’s a handsome piece of wristwear. Inside, the Ronda 763 movement is a hallmark of precision and reliability, with a double-layered dial on top and a genuine leather strap with seam detailing.

Void Watches

From the classic to the contemporary, in this case moving into the all black watches for men category. All black dial, hands, case and strap, all black everything. Don’t worry, the contrast detailing keeps the numbering visible. This limited edition modern classic from Void is an elegant timepiece with a ‘just right’ sizing which sits proudly on the wrist. The monochrome styling and premium Italian leather strap provides a real sleekness, with only 150 of the model produced. Inside there’s a Japanese Quartz movement and the glass is a scratch-resistant mineral crystal.

BALTIC Watches

Of all the dashing black and gold watches for men that BALTIC produce, it’s the Aquascaphe that has caught our eye. Smart, measured and with a clear dial, it’s a great diving-inspired black and gold watch option. The bronze case will develop a patina over time, meaning each piece will weather differently and the ultra-resistant sapphire glass will protect against scratches whilst providing unique depth and reflections. Inside there’s a Miyota 9039 movement (automatic winding) and the strap is a black tropic rubber strap with bronze buckle. The Aquascaphe is compatible with all BALTIC watch straps too. A welcome touch.

NOMOS Glashutte

Whilst the Swiss titans of horology steal the show, understandably, as a watch fan it’s hard not to have a soft spot for NOMOS Glashütte. Designed in Berlin and meticulously crafted in the tilt-shift, model railway-esque quant surrounds of Germany’s watchmaking centre, Glashutte, the NOMOS aesthetic combined with watchmaking traditions make for special results. The Tangente Neomatik 41 Update Ruthenium is one of the finest black watches for men out there, giving a classic style a colour update. Elegance and sophistication meet for a slender piece, with the date ring around the edge of the dial a practical addition to a beautiful design-led timepiece that doesn’t sacrifice on performance.

Heron Watches

Are you not entertained? Well, you should be with the Heron Gladiateur MMLXV, one of the more travel-minded black watches for men on our list. A modern travel watch with classic mechanical calibre, the distinctive twelve hour Roman numeral bezel can be used to track a second timezone, an elegant and surprisingly simple touch. Inside there’s an automatic Miyota 9039 movement, with a versatile case (design to be optimised for fitting most men’s wrists) and a black rubber strap. Swiss Super-lume ensures the dial can be clearly read in dim light.

ROUE Watches

For an affordable racing watch, look to the Roue TPS. The brand has tasked itself with reviving and rewriting ‘the subtle refinement of 1960s racing culture, which seems to have been lost.’ Not an easy task but the results are extremely promising in the case of the TPS, a black watch for men with an irresistable nod to speed and function. A tribute to the Porsche 910, winner of the Nürburgring 1000-kilometer race in 1967, the TPS comes in six versions, each limited to one thousand numbered pieces. Featuring triple layer dial construction, a Swiss Super-Luminova printed dial, a pulsometer calculator, the timepiece comes with a choice of two straps (leather and rubber), whilst the Seiko VK63 Meca-Quartz movement keeps everything precisely ticking along

Dalgado

Dalgado’s Marco watch is a timepiece that screams Bauhaus design-led function. No wonder its been given the black watches for men treatment, in this case a limited edition Bauhaus black chronograph release. Limited to 25 pieces worldwide, the white contrast-detailed dial is clean and sleek, with a Ronda Caliber 5030D movement powering everything underneath the scratch-resistant sapphire glass with anti-reflective coating from Switzerland. If that wasn’t enough, the strap is a bit special too. A first of its kind certified (Biokreis, ECARF and IVN) organic leather strap, handmade in Germany, keeps it comfortable on the wrist, with a stainless steel clasp. Jump on one quick, they won’t be around for long.

BOTTA Design

Looking to the future for your next watch? Look no further. Botta has created a truly modern timepiece that combines digital aesthetics with the finest mechanics for something outrageously cool. The Clavius automatic black watch for men is accented by a minute and hour hand circling the outside of the dial whilst a second hand appears and reappears around the centre. The Super-LumiNova ensures flawless visibility whilst the Sellita automatic movement can be observed from the back of the watch through a window of scratch-resistant sapphire glass. Future facing but with exceptionally reliant analogue credentials. The best of both worlds.

Tag Heuer

Tag Heuer is of course an icon when it comes to black watches for men. This delightful piece from the brand’s Formula 1 range is a pairing of iconic style with innovative performance. Speed and power at the forefront of its design. The 43mm case brushed steel case features bold details, with the all-black dial with three-counter chronograph design. Inside an exceptional Quartz movement powers a show-stopping design.

Omega

Celebrating Omega’s dive watch legacy is a remarkable timepiece, the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Mens 43.5mm Automatic Co-Axial Divers black watch for men. A timepiece that celebrates the past and the future. The Planet Ocean 600m collection, introduced in 2005, pays tribute to the brand’s ocean heritage with modern design, creative touches, and revolutionary Master Chronometer movements. First and foremost a performance diving watch, this timepiece features a master chronometer certified by METAS, 43.5mm stainless steel case paired with a black leather strap with a rubber lining and is water resistant to 600 metres.
