Where to begin with brown suede boots? A friend of the navy trouser, a comrade to denim and an accent to draping linens. Sometimes, visually, an outfit is just crying out for brown suede instead of the harsh shine of leather. It’s soft on the eye. It’s welcome texture. Care for it and it will last you a lifetime, improving with each wear. Here’s our pick of our favourite brown suede boots doing the rounds.
Best brown suede boots for men in 2024
Kleman Cagna V
For a Kleman style that nods to a desert boot, but keeps with the chunky aesthetic, consider the Cagna V. Made from a rich, dark chocolate suede, the upper sits atop a substantial stitched and cemented 20% recycled rubber sole and the boot is a thing of beautiful heft. Slightly smarter than the above Matelot style, in chocolate brown these brown suede boots will compliment understated smart casual outfits using dark denim or tailored separates.
Aurelien Chocolate Suede Desert Boot
The Aurelien chocolate brown suede desert boot is one luxurious boot. ‘Smart luxury’, if you’re partial to a brand slogan. Built for comfort, the boots are hand-crafted in Italy from the finest supple Softey suede (100% French calfskin) on top of an off-white rubber latex sole for grip and comfort. The sleek, low-profile of this brown suede boot makes it versatile and perfect for pairing with literally anything, be it tailoring or a casual chino look. If you’re looking to get a fit off with white trousers, these are the boots to do it with.
Velasca Artista
This is the sort of workhorse ankle boot that would benefit a Winter Autumn capsule wardrobe. Handcrafted from suede calf leather (a dark brown in this case, but other options are available), this handsome Artista boot from Velasca features a blake-construction Vibram rubber sole and calf lining, making for an understated, comfortable brown suede boot for wearing with a suit or casual denim. Keep the suede clean and refreshed and they will last you for seasons to come.
Myrqvist Granhult
The Granhult is a traditional brown suede Chelsea boot from Swedish shoemakers Myrqvist, made using the brand’s number 15 last. The last features a slightly wider shape and high instep in order to create a comfortable, generous fit with a chiseled toe box. A refined elegant shape to build a boot from. The brown suede boot itself is a wholecut (crafted from one piece of leather in Portugal), with a studded Goodyear welted rubber sole and leather board heel stiffeners and cork filling. The premium waterproof suede is sourced from British heritage tannery Charles F. Stead.
Myrqvist Duved II
This isn’t the first time we’ve featured Myrqvist’s beloved Duved hiking boot and no doubt it won’t be the last. The Duved I hiked through the city so that the Duved II could follow with improvements and it too, hiked through the city. Mark two comes with an improved hiking sole, premium water-repellent suede from England and that all-important water tongue and padded ankle collar. We wouldn’t want to risk scuffing them on rocks and outdoor pursuits. For us they’re a great brown suede boot for the city that channels the great outdoors for a robust day to day stomper.
Mulo Suede Chukka Boots
These are a fun pair of brown suede boots from Mulo. We’re immediately thinking loose, light linen trousers and boxy open collar shirts as sartorial soulmates. Crafted in Portugal, these chukka boots are made using a waxed suede for a water-resistant finish that’s always handy for unexpected summer showers. Cushioned footbeds mean comfortable arch support with the thick rubber souls a pleasing contrast to the brown suede. Pull tabs mean they’re easy to put on and take off.
John Lobb Weekend Panelled Suede and Leather Boots
John Lobb is a renowned British shoemaker. One of the all-time greats with a history of supreme craftsmanship going back to 1849. It’s a Northamptonshire shoemaker but it has never been afraid of experimenting and adding a little attitude. The panelled mix of leather and suede on these Weekend brown suede boots is a perfect example of that. The 190 step design process is evident in every boot but the contemporary detailing in this particular boot is what sets it apart. Rubber lug soles meanwhile offer a sturdy base and ample grip.
Drake's Crosby Moc Toe Chukka Boot
We’re big fans of Drake's. They do great clothes. They know when to keep it simple and when to add a flourish. Everything is great quality, the collaborations speak for themselves and their expertly-curated website editorial is like a sartorial education in itself. Great footwear too, notably the Crosby chukka which is named for the location of their first New York store. Distinct moccasin style, brown suede boot upper, bit of chukka energy and a crepe rubber sole to finish the whole thing of. If you’re undecided look no further than British seal of sartorial approval, James Bond. He’s worn a pair. So can you.
You've done suede, now how about leather boots?
