There are many useful skills to master for autumn but we think that one in particular takes precedence: layering. So you have a jumper, an overshirt and a coat that you want to wear but tradition has told you that all three would be too many, think again. With a touch of finesse, you’ll be able to pull off all three at once. After restless nights and days filled with sheets of scribbled notes, we’ve worked out that the key to layering is the coat. Here are the coats that will facilitate your expert layering this season.

Layering

A Day’s March Forest Shoulder Patch Jacket

Durable, minimal and stylish, A Day’s March’s Shoulder Patch Jacket is the perfect middle layer. A simple white t-shirt base followed by this piece, finished off by an overcoat is a surefire success in the realm of autumn layering. Details like the large waist pockets help to diversify your look without stealing the show.

Edmmond Studios Plain Camel Corduroy Shearling Jacket

Too bulky to fit underneath another coat (and you’d be far too hot, anyway), we think you should wear the 100% cotton corduroy shell of this piece with pride. Dress the coat up with a white Oxford shirt and jumper combination underneath, or style it more casually with a hoodie underneath.

YMC Navy Casuals Jacket

Continuing down the corduroy path, our next selection comes from YMC’s Autumn/Winter 2019 collection. The Casuals Jacket is constructed from a 100% cotton corduroy that boasts thick cord ridges and a silver zip fastening. Due to the heavy fabric of this piece, we recommend a thin coat as a top layer so as not to make your look too bulky. Opt for a lightweight mac which will protect the soft cord from the elements, too.

A Day’s March Almond Corduroy Original Overshirt

A Day’s March is a label famed for its overshirts. The Original Overshirt features two patch pockets to the waist and one to the chest as well as a horn button fastening and a classic spread collar. Overshirts are a shortcut to mastering layering as they’re lightweight enough to allow any top layer but heavy enough to feel natural over a t-shirt, jumper or even shirt.

Wax London Black Navarino Waxed Max 2.0 Coat

You can only use the Wax London Navarino Waxed Coat as a top layer because of its length, but as far as top layers go this takes the trophy. The unlined shell is ideal for fitting thicker layers underneath while the showerproof waxed cotton construction offers a protective finishing touch to a layered look.
